Kilkenny Council Council hand over keys to tenants of the Polerone Green House of Tomorrow Development in Mooncoin.  These 21 houses were designed to be 50% more energy efficient that required under the existing building regulations and included solar panels and wood pellet central heating stoves.

City and County Managers Association (CCMA) host the Climate Change Conference for Directors of Service and Senior Local Authority Staff. This Conference which was held in the Lyrath Estate Hotel, Kilkenny was organised jointly by the Kilkenny Local Authorities, Waterford County Council, CCMA and OLAM (Office of Local Authority Management). The Conference facilitated an understanding of:-
- the role of Local Authorities in developing and implementing Climate Change Policies
- the role of the Meteorological Service in supporting Climate Change Strategy
- the Flood Management Programme being implemented by the OPW
- the role of the EPA in managing Climate Change
- best practice approaches currently being adopted by Local Authorities to address Climate Change issues
- the development and adoption of a shared approach to managing the impacts of Climate Change

 

April 2008

CKEA and BNSRD organised a seminar in Butler House, Kilkenny , on behalf of the Kilkenny Sustainable Energy Forum, entitled "Housing, Planning & Urban Design for a Sustainable Future".  Keynote speaker for the day was Daniel Lerch, Post Carbon Cities Program Manager.

CKEA is re-elected as Chairperson for AIEA for 2008.

The agency with CANDO, CDCD community partnerships, LEADER companies and Teagasc organised a renewable energy training programme for farmers in Carlow and Kilkenny. On the programme was a combination of site visits and seminars on alternative renewable energy initiatives and how these applied as business opportunities for farmers.

CKEA and BNSRD organised, on behalf of The Kilkenny Sustainable Energy Forum, a conference in Ballytobin near Callan, Co. Kilkenny; the title of the conference was the “Sustainable Energy Building Seminar”. It was aimed mainly at architects, builders and engineers in the Kilkenny area. Speakers on the day included: Denis Malone - Senior Forward Planner, KCC, Chris Hughes – Built Environment, SEI, Robert P. Comerford – Managing Director, Inch Environmental Construction and Donal Deering – Project Manager, HSE Technical Services Department

The launch of the Kilkenny Sustainable Energy Forum was held in March 2007 in the Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle. Over 60 invited guests attended the Forum launch which included a presentation by Mr Duncan Stewart of the RTE television programme Ecoeye. The launch day was intended to inform new Forum members and other guests of the context and issues surrounding sustainable energy at a local level, and to consult with wider interests on the work of the Forum.  The launch was represented by organisations such as Local Authorities, State Organisations, Research & Educational organisations, Social & Private Building Developers, Private Companies & Community Organisations, Agricultural Organisations, and Renewable Energy Companies from Kilkenny.
